This was an unusual Monday Hike in that 17 people showed up for the fall colors trip to Scotts Lake. It probably had something to do with being a holiday, the route being a pretty easy one, and the possibility that the weather might close in and prevent us from hiking in the high country soon (without snow shoes).

The trailhead begins at the Big Meadows paved parking lot on the north side of Highway 89.

Vertical Profile

The trail is well defined and is a steady, gradual rise almost all of the way to the lake.

Starting up the trail

The path is easy walking, narrow at times but with many large openings for photo opportunities.

Path through the trees

After getting a little high, the aspen and cottonwood started showing a bit of color.

Now there's some color

Reaching the lake which was down quite a bit this late in the season, we stopped for lunch.

Lunch spot

While most relaxed at lake side, about a third of us took a little walk around the perimeter.

Around the lake we go

After regrouping, we headed back down the trail. It's always nicer when the trip back to the cars is a stroll down hill!
