This was a hike that we took with our "Monday Hikers" group. When hit at the right time, it is one of THE easy wildflower hikes in the area.

The trailhead begins at the paved parking lot on Highway 88 just west of Caples Lake.

Vertical Profile

The beginning of the trail is flat and winds through a small meadow alongside a fair sized creek.
`
There is also a couple of minor creek crossings (over fallen logs).

Looking for flowers

The trail hits a little bit of exposed granite, but the going is still pretty easy.

Up the rocks

Once there, there is ample area on the rocks surrounding the lake to spread out for lunch.

Settling in for lunch

Looking back from across the lake, you can see a large outcropping of granite.

The trail around the lake is sketchy in places, and non-existant in others. The trip around is fairly easy with no significant water crossings, only a little rock scrambling, and the lake is almost always in view.

Let's climb that

From the top of the rocks, the view is quite impressive. Looking south, you can see the Two Sentinals rising above the ridge along the Thunder Mountain trail.
