Ludwigia peploides

[lud-WIJ-ee-a pep-LOI-dees]

FAMILY: Onagraceae (Evening Primrose)

DESCRIPTION: {introduced} Unlike many of the other Evening Primrose species, these flowers may have either five or six petals, sometime both flowers on the same stem. It roots in the soil next to our pond and then makes a carpet of floating stems and flowers in the shallow water.

HABITAT: Ditches, pond banks under 2,000'.

NOTES: A little of this plant is pretty, but when it clogs up the catch pond below the dam, it can be a real pest. Jym spent three long hours clearing out the pond recently
