Goldwire

Goldwire
Hypericum concinnum

[hy-PEER-i-kum kon-SIN-um]

FAMILY: Hypericaceae (St. John's Wort)

DESCRIPTION: {native} The relatively large (1"+) yellow flower brightens up our semi-shaded roadsides.

HABITAT: Dry, shrubby slopes from 300' to 3,000'.

NOTES: This small (4-16") perennial plant should not be confused with it's alien, toxic big brother, Kalamath Weed (Hypericum perforatum). With a hand lens, look at the back of the linear leaf. If it has black dots, it is Goldwire; if it has clear 'see-through' dots, it is Klamatha Weed.
