Now, what flower is that?

Our Botany
Picture Page

In the spring of 2007 we began a concerted effort to satisfy Ann's curiosity about the floral habitat that we live in.

To that end, we enrolled in a field biology class (actually, beginning botany) at Sacramento City College, taught by the dynamic duo of Meyer and Serafini. The first nine weeks (one day a week) were held in the lab/classroom dissecting floral parts and absorbing lectures. The next nine were held in the field at various sites within a hundred mile radius. Although the class is no cake walk (who knew you had to learn Latin to truly enjoy a flower) we are (mostly) enjoying it and learning quite a bit.

All of the plants presented here (with a few exceptions) are found either at the farm or in the local area.

Although these are presented in no particular order (yet), clicking on an image will bring up a page with details and more photos. The pronunciation guides are our own (since there is really no consensus) because they make sense to us. These pages are definitely NOT meant to be a scientific treatise on the subject - think more in the way of a photographic appreciation of the natural flora of our area.
